“Great Vacation at Iberostar Rose Hall”

We decided to travel to Jamaica amidst concerns of hurricane season. It turned out to be great. It rained at times but in late afternoon or at night which did not effect our beach time; we spent every day on the beach or by the pool.

I had been checking TripAdvisor reviews regularly to read the most recent ones. Needless to say everyone has the right to have their point of view, I find some of them unrealistic considering some of the complaints people have at times. The hotel itself is very nice (can't say flawless if you're picky and trying to find things wrong, but they're not worth mentioning). Let's not go raving about a couple of missing tiles in the pool. You have to consider the kind of climate these structures deal with and, no, it did not spoil my vacation. Our room, one of the two corner rooms facing East was beautiful, with a great view over the pool and the beach. The marble (which we noticed all over the hotel) kept our room cool in that warm weather. AC and the ceiling fan worked perfectly. We saw another room where a couple we made friends with stayed at and it was almost the same; we simply had a bigger balcony (remember to request if you can, the corner rooms in the top floor or oceanfront ones.)

Great news for those who were almost crying in their reviews! We had FACE CLOTHS in the bathroom every day but the first one (not that I really care but my girlfriend finds them useful).
Towels were changed every day. Just leave them in the bath tub as mentioned in the hotel info brochure placed in the table. It also says minibar is replenished every other day; we had in ours 4 beers, water jug and bottles and soft drinks. However ours was replenished DAYLY. The second morning I left a 1 USD bill, I don't know if it had anything to do with it. The made service was good as well. The bathroom is very clean with a european feel. Also bathrooms throughout the resort were well kept. If you have an evening flight but have to check out your room at noon, there are showers in the hotel for public use. You can also keep your room longer for USD 10 per hour, subject to availability. The hotel has a great lobby with a nice bar, open till 1am. The balcony has a beautiful view over the pool and the beach. The disco bar is open until 2 am. There is a cigar bar as well. Check it out, some people find it worthwhile. I checked the gym and it looks nice. Not very big and in a closed area but clean and it has brand new weight machines. It has treadmills and lots of bicycles which I'd exchange for some ellipticals, but I'm not worried of lack of workout while on vacation; I was too busy working my biceps raising glasses of Red Stripe and cocktails!!! It's true, at times drinks are kind of strong; and we said THANK YOU very much. Try their special shooters at the pool bar. They also offer internet (USD5/30 min) and have pool tables and table tennis. Beach volley was good. We went kayaking and had a look of the other 2 Iberostars under construction. It should be a great complex once finished. We did not try room service; it's available 11a - 11p.
We booked 2 tours, zip linning and Dunn's River Falls + swimming with dolphins. We had a good time. However videos and pics they sell you are pricey. If you leave the resort on your own make sure you know where you're going.

Staff in general is nice and very interactive. Language barrier is not there as in some other non English speaking countries. Of course jamaicans are friendly in their way, warmer then in N. America. I didn't really notice any staff hitting on guests. Nightly shows were ok and the entertainment crew works very hard during the day. They play games and music is great. The pools are beautiful, however I'd rate the beach itself as 3*, it could use some work. It has a short stretch for swimming to the line that keeps local's boats away. They will offer their products, you can also walk to their shacks next to the resort; it may get intense while they try to sell you their stuff.

We were there during slow season and there were lots of staff around, so we never suffered delays with service. Beach sevice was good also. The same goes for restaurants. I don't dine at Ritz or frequent the most expensive clubs, but I found the food pretty good, for sure above average. It doesn't lack in choices, and it's true, omelettes are great. Beach BBQ was nice. The Japanese restaurant was good, cooks were very entartaining. The Steak House - lots of meats, several choices, a little hot to dine outside. We missed our reservation at Jambalaya due to other plans we had. I made reservations myself with no problem at all; within 30 sec I had 3 reservations. They offer different seatings as well. At no time I noticed any line ups to reserve the a la carte restaurants. It can be done in the morning and in the afternoon, 4-7pm. We noticed the managers were everywhere all day long, working themselves. Sometimes welcoming you, pulling a chair for a lady or cleaning the table. Some trainees would ask as us if they could sit and have breakfast with us; it was great, we always welcomed them. They have to work 2-4 weeks with no salary until hired.
My girlfriend forgot her bag at dinner. A few hours later we found a letter in our room advising we could pick it up at lost and found office.

By the way, we booked through Sunwing and had a very good experince; CAD25 each way for extra leg room well worth it. Their local rep Lisa was kind. We flew in the evening both ways and at customs it was quick. All in all we had a blast. Hope You do too!
