“Beautiful, fun-filled resort”

My husband and I stayed at Riu for our 15th wedding anniversary from 9/20-9/27/08.

Rooms - we stayed in a junior ocean view suite and really loved our room. A beautiful view of the quieter pool and the beach. Lots of space. Yes the beds are a bit hard but we adjusted and brought our own pillows. We did not notice a musty smell but did bring candles and Febreeze in case we needed it. Housekeeping was excellent - we tipped $2-3 every day and got extra towels and personal touches such as towel animals and fresh flowers on our bed each day.

Food - not the best but okay. We stood in line every afternoon around 4:30 for reservations to the specialty restaurants every day we could and always got what we wanted. It is worth it to do this and usually only took 35-45 minutes out of our day. We liked the Steakhouse and gourment restaurants. The Chinese restaurant was not good at all. The buffet at St. Ann's was adequate. You definitely will not go hungry but probably not rave about the food either.

Entertainment/Bars - the entertainment staff are great and really work their butts off to make sure everyone is having a good time. We attended most of the evening shows. The highlights were the steel drum band and the "fire" show. I liked the audience participation games - they were a riot, but some people may find these cheesy. The bars and the bar staff are excellent with the exception of the sports bar which is in a dark, musty basement. We spent very little time there. Bring your own insulated mug with you to the beach and pool bars and you'll save yourself a few trips to the bars and also keep your drinks cooler longer. We tried many different drinks that we wouldn't have tried if not for the bar staff.

Beach/pools - Absolutely beautiful!! We spent time at both pools - we preferred the quieter pool because it was less crowded and more relaxing. My one complaint is that the pool close too early - 6p.m. However, most every night there were a few people in the quieter pool after hours. The beach is so nice. There were lots of topless sunbathers - my husband needs a new set of eyes now... Also a lot of speedos - sorry but there needs to be a weight limit put on those things, I'm just sayin'...

Excursions - Chukka Cove was offering an online special of 2 for the price of 1 so we booked more excursions that we would have if not for the sale.

We did the Jeep Safari/ Dunns River Falls which consisted of visiting a plantation, driving through different districts, learning more about the land and the people, visiting a primary school and climbing Dunns River Falls - a great tour, loved the Falls!! About 5 hours long

Canopy tour - about 3 hours, great time. A once in a lifetime experience as I am not getting any younger

Horseback ride and swim - about 3 hours, very fun. Sore the next day though!!

White River tubing - a total blast - about an hour drive to the destination where the tubing starts but the guide told us about the area and other facts so that was interesting.

We took a cab into Ocho Rios for $30 and did some shopping. Got some beautiful carvings, paintings and jewelry. We got quite good at bargaining with the sellers. The resort also brings in vendors 2-3 times per week and they set up on the boardwalk near St. Ann's. They were willing to bargain too and had a vast selection of different items.

We also snorkled through ScubaCaribe at our resort. It was $15 per person and we went out for about 90 minutes. Saw several schools of fish, two octopus and two sea snakes. Worth the time and money

In all, we had a great time. This was our first all-inclusive and we would definitely do this again. I do not think we will return to Jamaica though. It was beautiful with friendly people but there are other parts of the world we still want to see.
